The Untraditional Life of William Faulkner :: Biography Biographies Essays

The Untraditional Life of William FaulknerThe South is tradition, in every aspect of the intelligence agency family, profession, and lifestyle. The staple to each tradition in the south, and ultimately masculinity, is to be a southern gentleman. William Faulkner, a man with the most southern of blood running by his veins, was everything but a southern gentleman. A southern gentleman is to support his family, to be the sole provider. To support something such as a family is a corking responsibility, and it is expected of a southern gentleman to be able to handle that responsibility. Faulkner did not have a secure job or income. He wrote verse line and attempted novels, but had not found success as a writer. He did not aspire to find a different occupation that could stick stability to his financial situation.Though it was not certain that William could support a family, he did have a child with his married woman and supported the daughter from his wifes first marriage. It was not a happy family, as most southern families have been portrayed. Faulkner drank and continued to internalize himself from the rest of the family, as he had unceasingly internalized himself from society. The drinking was not and everyday thing, but his family said that it would happen for long periods at a time. He would drink for a few weeks until he valued to sober himself up. A southern gentleman is to be the father figure in his family, to teach his children right from wrong, but William seemed to be concerned with only himself. When he drank, he was not there for his family. When his daughter asked him not to start drinking because her birthday was coming up, Faulkner said to her no one remembers Shakespeares daughter. Tradition in the southern family did encompass tough love, but a southern gentleman is to be an example to his children, with characteristics embodying responsibility and honor. William Faulkner was neither responsible nor honorable. As WWI began, William, who ha d always been interested in flying, was eager to volunteer in the Royal Canadian Air Force. To protect and defend ones country is a debt instrument of a southern gentleman, one of the most masculine aspects of the south. Though he did not see any battle first hand, he came back to Mississippi, move with a limp caused by a supposed metal plate in his head, and elaborate stories of plane crashes and battle.

Physics of Bowling Essays -- physics bowling sport sports

Aside from being one of the most accessible (and best) sports out there, many a(prenominal) aspects of bowling can be expressed with physics. Achieving maximum power, stimulateing a hook orb, and getting good pin action can all be baffled down into physics issues and represented with equations. I will cover four aspects of bowling that can be explained with physics terms and show you how to use this knowledge to optimize your game.Gravitational Potential EnergyDepending on the height from which the plug hat drops the bowling screwball, the ball will have a certain amount of say-so energy. If the bowler bowls with a straight ball, the potential energy of the ball will non affect their game very frequently. It will, however, draw attention to the bowler when they drop the ball sufficiently high as to broadcast sonic reverberations of the ensuing lane-punishment for the rest of the bowlers to hear (and laugh at). Thus, it is in the straight-ball bowlers best interests to keep the ball as close to the lane as possible upon release.Bowlers who bowl with a hook-ball have even more at stake. The more potential energy the ball has upon release, the longer it will bounce as it travels down the lane. This translates into less opportunity for a hook-ball to catch friction against the lane. Remember, the horizontal focal ratio is independent of the vertical velocity, thereof (assuming the ball is always thrown with a force parallel to the horizon) the ball will take the same amount of time to reach the pins, regardless of how much time it spends airborne.Direction of the Initial ForceFor maximum impact, the bowler must release the ball with a force perfectly parallel to the horizon. Since the horizontal velocity is independent of the vertical velocity, an... ... an elastic clash. The pins bounce against one another because their momentum is conserved during the collision(s).To achieve the most pin action, the bowler must put potentiometer of energy into the system and also find a direction of impact to efficiently distribute the kinetic energy. During pin action, some of the energy is transformed into sound. If the bowlers throw produces a single, loud *dink* sound, they are hearing the audible period punctuating their failure of a throw. On the other hand, if the bowlers throw produces a sound not unlike a marble statue being clubbed to death, this means two things. First, there must be lots of pin action to be producing all of those collision sounds second, the bowler is very strong, has thrown the ball parallel to the horizon, and has hit the pins at an angle capable of distributing the kinetic energy efficiently.

Appearance: What You See Is Not Always What You Get Essay -- Literary

Thomas Pain once said a long habit of not thinking a thing wrong gives it a superficial appearance of being right. Appearances atomic number 18 the first thing to catch ones attention. Whether it be a supermodel, a famous photograph, or the unmistakable golden arches we take notice. The essays written by Judith Ortiz Cofer, Eric Schlosser, and Nora Ephron demonstrate the effect appearances have on individuals and our society undividedly. In Judith Ortiz Cofers essay The bilgewater of My Body, she shargons her struggle with appearance and self-esteem. Ms. Cofer admits her definitions of appearance changed when she relocated to the United States at age eight. She states I was born a white girl in Puerto Rico, but became a brown girl when I came to live in the United States (Cofer 323). For instance, Cofer is identified as a palm blanca in Puerto Rico and as a colorful girl during her first encounter of color prejudice. In addition to her cultural dispute with appearance, Ms. Cofer displays an internal dispute with her appearance in size. At age dozen standing five-feet tall, Ms. Cofer was viewed by her family as a tall young woman in comparison to her mother who was no taller than four-foot-eleven. Her mother exemplified this by saying since you are so tall, this dress will look good on you (Cofer 326). Her classmates at her New Jersey public school viewed her appearance very differently. Ms. Cofer was perceived as the 4F, skinny, short, bespectacled (Cofer 326) kid on the playground impervious to competition whereas her true competition lay in the classroom. Appearance is what creates an initial attraction to ones significant other for example, Cofer describes her first crush, Ted, whom she describes as pretty with yellow ... ... photographic coverage of events must be published regardless of the subject, simply because the events took place. The author states Thats wherefore photojournalism is often more powerful than written journalism (Ephron 438), e mphasizing that censorship harms the purity of death and that interpretation and judgment must be left to the reader. Ms. Ephron establishes, appearances are memorable and powerful. Societys views always fluctuate, as they are allowed, and censorship is a major threat the right to form our own opinions. An initial answer can be everlasting. This is why it is believed that appearance and first impressions are most important. Although, understanding what we see versus what we get is vital. It is imperative to venture past first appearances and impressions sometimes there lies honesty or deceit. Appearances are not always what they seem.

British Criminology

Knowledge is very alpha to a concept like criminology that is both empirically and supposedly anchord. However, it kitty non be avoided that in certain aspect criminology may lack specific necessities especially in some countries where the criminal jurist formation is rather not yet fully developed. The instruction of the aspect of criminology is very important in addressing criminality and criminal offences. The effectiveness of the umpire system, particularly of the criminal justice system is greatly dependent on the comprehensiveness and stability of criminology. In Britain, knowledge is as acknowledged as an important aspect of criminology. Thus, knowledge has been constructed in the British criminology since the year 1960 (Soothill & Peelo, 2007). Criminologists know the importance of research Exercises and citations in their jobs in order to establish authority and sanctioned reason (Soothill & Peelo, 2007). Criminology According to the British confederation of Cri minology (2005), criminology is both a theoretical and an empirical discipline that draws on the range of human and amicable science disciplines. The British Society of Criminology (2005) likewise added that at the heart of criminology be theoretical debates active a wide range of perspectives. According to them, criminology should emphasize the relevancy of a firm and strong knowledge base to serve as evidence and basis for its theories and for the evaluation of the crime control policies (British Society of criminology, 2005). Strong knowledge base on this aspect is very important beca economic consumption it ensures that there are reasonably reliable pieces of evidence that has been consulted during the discriminative enquiry. However, it is believed that in pursuing these values, it is indispensable that a lively debate should be nurtured that employs both qualitative and quantitative data in a confabulation between a range of methodological and theoretical perspectives (B ritish Society of Criminology, 2005). Criminology should ensure that a premature foreclosure of this dialogue be not resorted to favoring certain sub-discipline fields, either endorsed by state officials, the mass media, or by fashions of academic thought (British Society of Criminology, 2005).Criminology is excessively empirically bear on with the processes of criminalization and victimization and the causes and organization of crime and deviance (British Society of Criminology, 2005). In criminology, it is important that criminologists have the necessary knowledge in comparison to criminality so that they tidy sum distinguish crimes, treats the same and propose for punishments. This is very important because if criminologists do not have the proper knowledge, they may not readily recognize a crime once they encounter the same, therefore failure to address it.Criminology is also concerned with the process of managing crime, deviance, and victimization, including policing, c riminal justice and penalty, community safety and less formal means of addressing criminality (British Society of Criminology, 2005). For criminologists, in order for them to effectively handle and address criminality and decrease crime rates, they should be able to crimes chthonic the authority of police power and the corresponding course of a judicial authority. For example, as criminology includes policing, it is important that the criminologists know the rules and laws governing the proper execution of the power of a police officer. He should make sure that rights are not violated in the process. As a social discipline, criminology is constantly changing with its subject fast-moving both in theory and methodological development. The convinces correspond with the equally fast changes in the social purlieu. Moreover, the change is due to the systems intention to capture the changes and interaction of ideas into a more complex methodological dialogue about its relevance to the so cial life. In its modern form, criminology is characterized by wagess on how to Operationalize its theories in conducting research (British Society of Criminology, 2005) the changes may be necessary so that refreshing ideas and criminological concepts may be formulated through research. The debates are important because they determine the endless possibilities in tattle to the occupation of criminology in social life. Criminology is concerned on how research and knowledge can be used n order to make effective criminology itself. For example, criminology is important in order to conduct and story specific occurrences in relation to criminality and deviance Explain its subject matter (British Society of Criminology, 2005) Knowledge in relation to criminology is likewise important in order to understand its nature and applicability.Criminology endeavors to make its own extent comprehensive and understandable by the public so that they can be consulted in cases of incidents its applications programme may be necessary inform the debates over crime control policy the links between criminal and social justice, and the expanding knowledge bases of the crime and justice related professions (British Society of Criminology, 2005) Modern criminology is a way to provide the public with knowledge base on how social justice may be get upd and how rights may be protected even in cases of criminal infringements. It should be noted however that under criminology, by concept of social justice in relation to crimes should mean that criminology should comprehend all aspects of social justice even as it involves the criminal. Criminology, as a knowledge base is used by legal and justice related professionals in the pursuance of social justice and the treatment of crimes. According to the British Society of Criminology (2005), as a changing academic discipline, its knowledge base should necessarily change to address the corresponding changes in its environment. As such, the importance attached to different classical and contemporary theories will continually change (British Society of Criminology, 2005). The changes in the classical and contemporary theories also requires changes in theories and application in the unhomogeneous areas of criminological enquiry (British Society of Criminology, 2005). Moreover, such new areas may also be generated by changing political and social concerns, or by changes within another discipline, such as philosophy (British Society of Criminology, 2005).For example, the constant change in criminology may be brought about by technological advancements. As new technologies and device are created, corresponding laws relating to specific acts may be enacted in order to identify criminality of specific acts in relation to these advancements, which in the past may not be covered by law or criminological precedents. Specifically, as has been experienced, m all scrupulous machinations have been resorted to by some criminals in order to avoid prosecution because certain acts may not be covered by a law that penalizes crimes. In the case of crimes related to the Internet, many have escaped prosecution because past laws do not cover acts pull through and via the Internet. Criminology, like all social sciences, is both theoretically and evidence based that requires the comprehension of specific issues (British Society of Criminology, 2005). The importance of knowledge base in criminology has prompted the British Society of Criminology (2006) to create the Code of Ethics for researchers in the Field of Criminology. This is because of the fact that it is the researchers who gather and make use of the knowledge as a reaping of their research and used in the judicial inquiry. Among others, the Code serves as guidance to researchers in the field of criminology to aid them in keeping with the aims of the society to value and promote the highest good well-worns in criminological research (British Society of Crimin ology, 2006).According to this Code, and as a guiding principle of the British Society of Criminology, researchers should ensure that research is undertaken to the highest methodological touchstone and the highest quality in order that maximum possible knowledge and benefits accrue to the society (British Society of Criminology, 2006). The Code ensures that researchers alone gather the most credible and highest standard of knowledge in order to establish a sound criminal justice system. The aspect of criminology should be ensured to be given that taint of authority and credibility so that the people can develop trust and confidence to its concept.Specifically, according to the British Society of Criminology (2006), the researcher has the following responsibilities General Responsibilities The researcher should endeavor to 1. conjure knowledge about criminological issues (British Society of Criminology, 2006) as criminal researchers, it is their responsibility to ensure that the y accumulate a sustained knowledge base with comprehensive application to cover the respective(a) criminological issues and its relationship to each other. For example, researchers, in tackling a criminal issue should consider it in relation to specific laws and its relationship to any other issues and laws that may somehow be directly or indirectly affect its applicability and outcomes. This can be explained in the various aspects of criminology as in the case of policing as it relates to the crime busting and crime punishment. In policing, researchers should not only provide knowledge that pertain to policing but on how to execute this authority in connection with the rights of the people and the rights of the public being protected.2. Identify and seek to ameliorate factors which restricts the development of their professional competence and integrity (British Society of Criminology, 2006) As researchers undergo research, criminological knowledge should also be accumulated that provides guidance on how restrictions may be avoided and the full application of this knowledge can be attained. Researchers should also identify how they can improve their competence and the reliability and credibility of criminology by giving knowledge and criminology with known integrity3. Seek appropriate experience or bringing up to improve their professional competence, and identify and deal with any factors which threaten to restrict their professional integrity (British Society of Criminology, 2006) In criminology, criminologists and researchers should endeavor to improve competence by undergoing trainings and continuous improvement and enhancement of knowledge and qualities that can help improve criminology through improved knowledge base derived from meaningful research 4.Refrain from move claim, directly or indirectly, to expertise in areas of criminology which they do not have (British Society of Criminology, 2006) as researchers tasks with the gathering of criminolo gical knowledge, they should avoid assumptions and the incorporation of personal views and opinions that are not validated and unsupported by actual facts and information. For example, in the judicial inquiry, it is important that the research provide information so that the proper authorities can come up with a decision regarding a controversy through validated precedents and established facts5. Take all reasonable steps to ensure that their qualifications, capabilities or views are not misrepresented by others (British Society of Criminology, 2006) sometimes the quality of the criminological knowledge is dependent on how it is presented and fed to the people and those intended to use the same. In this regard, researchers should endeavor to provide criminological knowledge that are well organized and understandable, avoiding vagueness and allow for not biased interpretations6. Correct any misrepresentations and adopt the highest standards in all their professional relationships wi th institutions and colleagues whatever their status (British Society of Criminology, 2006) misrepresentations, should, at all times be avoided to maintain the highest standard of criminological knowledge formed only by information provided by proper authorities and backed up with supporting evidence and justification7. Respect their various responsibilities as outlined in the Code (British Society of Criminology, 2006) in order for the researcher to be able to recognize and comprehend the various knowledge available, he should comply with all the rules and ethical standards being imposed by the Code 8.Keep up to date with ethical and methodological issues in the field, for example by yarn research monographs and participate in training events (British Society of Criminology, 2006) researchers should ensure the quality and integrity of the criminological knowledge by adhering to ethical principles that will attach credibility to the research process, the researchers and the out comes 9. snag the reliability of their sources of information, in particular when using the internet (British Society of Criminology, 2006).Responsibilities towards the Discipline of Criminology In addition to these general responsibilities, they also have responsibilities to others in the practice under the same field. He has the responsibility to promote advancement and effectiveness of information dissemination and to protect intellectual and professional freedom (British Society of Criminology, 2006). He can do this by acknowledging the various research processes and the au indeedticity and the integrity of knowledge. In addition, he also has the responsibility to promote conducive environment and relationship with other professionals and the environment because this will dictate the quality of knowledge and criminology as a whole. More specifically, researchers should promote free and independent inquiry into criminological matters and unrestricted dissemination of criminologic al knowledge (British Society of Criminology, 2006). Unrestricted dissemination of criminological knowledge is important in the determination of the quality and applicability of the knowledge in relation to various aspects of criminology.Researchers should endeavor to ensure that the methodology employed and the research findings are open for discussion and peer canvas (British Society of Criminology, 2006). This respects the functions of other professionals and allow for checks and balances and the review of the reliability of the information. In the process, it can improve the quality of the information because other minds can be consulted with their own views and research incorporated to the knowledge base. Development of British CriminologyThe development of British criminology has been discussed in a number of instances by various authors and scholars expert to their respective fields of criminology. For example, in his book, Tierney discussed the development of criminology in relation to the various cultural and societal influences that had shaped it. For example, he discussed how American criminology has affected and shaped the British criminology by providing a well-organized discussion of the various influences in the various stages of the development of British criminology. In Maguire, Morgan & Reiner The Oxford Handbook of Criminology, it is said that the history of criminology is perhaps too complex to be captured in a single text however, despite its comprehensive and pithy relevance, collections of books and writings did a good job in outlining its development and its areas of descent and growth as it is discussed in the books, The Origins and Growth of Criminology by Piers Beirne and The History of Criminology by capital of Minnesota RockAfter which, a series of studies have been conducted headed by Michael Foucalt (1977) in his work Discipline and Punish wherein he analyzed and discussed the role of power knowledge in relation to the various d isciplinary and governmental institutions. Meanwhile, in an other essay authored by Pasquale Pasquino entitled, The Invention of criminology Birth of a Special Savior and The Foucault Effect Studies in Governmentality by Burchell, Gordon and Miller, they discussed criminal delinquent as a new subject for scientific and administrative issue in the nineteenth-century Europe. They view the development of criminology as a necessary aspect of a society to address delinquencies. Criminology is important in the administration of justice and the treatment of delinquent behavior. In addition, in the work, Punishment and Welfare A History of Penal Strategies (1985), it was discussed the developing criminological aspect anchored and revolving around the penal-welfare institutions in Britain as the twentieth century culminates.Other than these works, there are other meaningful accounts on the development of criminology in Britain like Radsinowicz memoir, Adventures in Criminology (1999) as well as Clarke and Cornishs (1983), Crime Control in Britain A Review of indemnity Research, which among others discussed the development of Home Office. Cohen on the other hand offers a sociological analysis of the post-war developments in relation to British Criminology while Fitzgerald, McLeenan and Pawson (1981) discussed the intellectual tensions that affected the British criminology especially during the period of the 1960s and 1970s.In Sumners (1994), The Sociology of Deviance An Obituary, he laid down an extended history of the sociology of deviance in critical analysis with the issue of criminology. The contemporary aspect of the development of British criminology are further discussed by Nelken (1994) and Holdaway and Rock (1998). According to Newburn and Vagg (1998), it was only ten years since the first British Criminology gathering and much has changed from that time. Initially, at about 1987, many criminological researches were carried out by a small number of researchers and their works are often the sole delegate of criminological inquiry. This only means that with this system, criminological knowledge in solving crimes is limited. In addition, knowledge may not always be that comprehensive and reliable. It was then possible that mistakes may continue on to court decisions without verification. As a result, judicial inquiry may have outcomes that may be of poor legal basis. But now, criminology and criminologists proliferate (Newburn, & Vagg, 1998). The development of criminology in Britain underwent an elusive transformation through the combined efforts of numerous criminologists and judicial authorities. It helped in the improvement of the criminal justice system and the aspect of criminology in the country especially with the fact that many criminologists can readily ignore writing that are more than fifteen years old, with obvious consequences for the public presentation and validation of expert knowledge (Soothill, & Peelo, 2007). However, it should be noted that as a discipline that constantly change, writings in support of judicial enquiry should also be updated. Writings that are more than fifteen years old may not be as credible as the contemporary views. In this regard, criminology and criminological research is very important so that this deficiency may be addressed. This is the reason why criminological knowledge is very important especially in the treatment of crimes. The quality of criminological knowledge determines the quality of criminologists and the quality of crime related policies in a society. Criminology, like all social sciences, is both theoretically and evidence based that requires the comprehension of specific issues (British Society of Criminology, 2005).In this regard, criminological knowledge ensures that it is presented with reliable and verified evidence to support its applicability and its relevance to specific issues. Japanese Gender Roles

Why and how is Gender affected in Japans modern day nightclub? These questions I want out to answer. I chose Japanese sex roles because I felt it would be a topic of interest, and one I would do my best in to research. It is typeface I have hold some value in, and always wanted to learn more about. I had established rapport long ago with interviewee, when I became friends with Tomo MIzaki. This also helped me obtain consent from MIzaki to do this project with ease and be able to interview him. I had an extensive and productive interview with Mizaki, summing up a total of three hours. This paper will explain the Japanese families gender roles. I conducted extensive ethnographic study with Mizaki with several interviews and backing up what he said with my own research of outside resources. This methodology of mine helped my research to be more solid and resourceful. With the interviews and research I conducted, this helps me understand why and how the regular nuclear Japanese famil y act and behave a certain way, and how gender roles argon affected upon the mother and father of the relationship. The traditional gender roles place custody as breadwinners and women as homemakers.Among younger couples, more flexible gender roles are becoming popular, although attitudes are changing, actual behaviors are non Japanese men do only twenty to thirty minutes worth of domestic work per day, sequence women spend three and a half hours in home plate chores. Throughout Tomos Mizakis life, he was brought to do very well in school and get a great job by and by, not to clean up after himself. Unlike Tomo, his sister was only asked to do the house chores and never given much attention too, even though she too does well in school.Traditional gender roles in Japan are characterized by a strong sense of patriarchy in society, which account for the bifurcation of the productive and reproductive spheres, with a distinct insulation of gender roles. In the family, this refers to the idea of the man as the primary breadwinner of the family, and the woman as the primary caregiver in the family, an idea that is described by Tomo Mizaki in his life. Mizakis mother had no special duties in her job, and her main roles were as a housewife, a mother, and in taking care of her ill mother-in-law.Even though she was a college graduate, and knew three languages fluently. In examining the nature of gender roles and inequality in Japan, it is important to consider the major traditional patterns, understanding how these patterns have changed today, and how the changes have affected society in general. This has resulted in a tension between the status and economic security of marriage and the freedom of remaining single, where many women find themselves trapped in marriages that deny them personal freedom. In addition, women in rural communities do not enjoy equal rights and status as their conserves, being expected to serve the families as workers, while at the same ti me not rewarded in terms of inheritance. Gender roles in the family bear a close relationship to the situation in the workforce, where in that location is a strong male dominance in the company hierarchy. Resultantly, males possess increased career opportunities, unlike females, who are marginalized in the workforce and are considered to be temporary labor, expected to resign upon marriage or childbirth. In the workplace, the idea that women play a temporary labor role has resulted in their limited career advancement. As can be seen, there is an intimate family-work relationship in Japanese society and this hinges on the traditional gender roles within society. For example, Mizakis mother is a graduate from the University of Washington plainly as soon as she had Kondo and his sister she retired to stay as the housewife. This shows the pattern of the patriarchy lifestyle. Show in the Annual magnetic variation article 20 in Who needs Love In Japan, Many couples Dont by Nicolas D. K ristof. I dont interfere with my husbands business, not with my mouth, hands or legs. This statement, made by Kumiko Hashimoto, the wife of former Japanese Prime Minister Ryutario Hashimoto, underlines the traditional role of women in Japan. Husbands and wives base very little communication and conversation, as little as ten to fifteen minutes per day. For most part most husbands have a secant home closer to work, rarely do they go back home with children and wife. There is no conversation, communication, and sexual relations between a husband and wife, but they do not divorce. This is because there is an unseen code for women and men.Because the traditional gender patterns in Japanese society have however not been without their tensions and problems. For instance, traditional patterns in the family require women to be put their husbands before their jobs, for example Tomos mother. Roles for mothers and fathers are segregated. Childcare is regarded as the mothers responsibility t he fathers domestic role is limited to small household repairs and paying for household needs and the childs care, like school supplies. Mizaki explained how his father was rarely seen and if Mizaki was fortunate, he might see his father twice a week.Full-time working wives (which is not so common) also have the burden of housekeeping without help. Domestic help is not popular in Japan, when women need help in housekeeping work and childcare, their mothers help the woman (according to Mizaki). Mothers prefer living close to their mothers house for this reason. Husbands and wives call each other father and mother, even when children are not around. Japanese couples regard parental roles as more important than couple roles when they have children. As can be seen, the patterns of gender roles in Japan are still deeply rooted in the Japanese psyche. In conclusion Japanese lifestyle and gender roles will not alter until specific life changing laws are made and enforced in todays modern da y Japan. Even though Japan has low divorce rate, we do not fully understand if the women and men are happy the way they live, but they accept it and deal with it.Work cited Quoted in violatey Jordan, A First Ladys Secondary Role Premiers Wife stands behind her man, typifying gender roles in modern Japan, The Washington Post, 15 April 1996, Online, Lexis-Nexis Academic Universe, 11 Mar 2000. Online School Vs. Traditional Essay

According to the National Center for Education Statistics, about 4.3 million undergrad students, or 20 percent of all undergraduates, took at least one distance education course in the 2007-08 school year. And about 0.8 million, or 4 percent of all undergraduates, took their entire program through distance education (May, Ryan). There be many pros and cons about distance and traditional education, as intimately as many similarities and differences. Online education is a much flexible option for students to get an education since most classes can be taken anywhere you are able to take your laptop or hook up to the internet. Its very convenient for people who have a busy lifestyle, such as families, full-timer workers, and those who serve in the military. With online learning, students dont have the traditional methods of sitting at a desk and learning with lectures and books. You have the freedom to learn your way at your own comfort level. Studies have shown that in online learni ng conditions perform better than those receiving traditional instruction (NCU). However, for several(prenominal), lectures in the classroom are more beneficial to them since some need more a more hands on approach. A disadvantage of online learning is not having your degree being seen as creditable. Be accredited that your college choice is accredited since there are many Degree Mills out looking for your money. There are many students and employers who are skeptics about how a lot you really do learn from online learning.According to Allie Bidwell from USA news, In a survey of 656 human resources professionals released Wednesday, the researchers found that although nearly half of employers said online-only programs require more discipline, 56 percent said they still prefer applicants with traditional degrees from an average university over those with an online degree from a top university. Overall, most employers (82 percent) said a faction of in- individual and online educati on would benefit the majority of students (Bidwell, 2013). Most employers are going to view how effective an online education is by the quality of the new hiresthey bring in. court is another consideration to think of when deciding to go online or traditional. Online education is less expensive since there are no extra fees for maintaining a sizable campus or classrooms. Some classes may not even require books for you to purchase. Either way you choose to go, there are still rules and guidelines that must be followed. on with that, attendance is still a must with online education and participation in discussions just as you would participate in a classroom. Depending on the type of person you are and the lifestyle you live, either online or traditional education will be right for you. Before getting into either one, students should carefully research both to find out which is the right fit for them.ReferencesBidwell, A. (2013). Storm Born Chapter Sixteen

I slept the rest of the twenty-four hours and most of the liveing unity as well. Only the essentials got me out of bed food, the bathroom, one and only(a) phone c each(prenominal), and a meeting with Volusian after Kiyo had to leave for Phoenix.I was dozing around dinner beat that second day when Tims angry voice in the living room woke me up.No I dont divvy up. She posits to sleep, okay? Ill give her the message, entirely stop calling.Id exposed Tim drug abuse that vestige only on a few throng, so I had a right idea whom he spoke to. For whatever reason, despite having never met, he and Lara hated each other. Throwing on my robe, I shuffled out to the living room and see him talking on my cell phone. The only progress wed made in cleanup thus far was to sort of clear a walking path through the debris. He pulled the receiver from his face. Its that bitch secretary of yours. I wouldnt possess answered except that she lay asides calling and calling. I told her you cant t ake I reached for the phone. Its fine. I need to talk to her.Glaring, he handed it oer.Did your asshole roommate just call me a bitch? de military manded Lara. He has no right let it go, I ordered. Tell me whats up.Well, I got your message. Did the shoes show up?Yeah, theyre great. What to the highest degree the witch?I dumbfound it up. Hes vent to come ward the place this eventideing. Hell need you to let him in.No prob. I wont be here(predicate), besides Tim will.Okay, and just about the other thingYeah?A long pause. Well, I dont count I imaged that part of the message right. It sounded like you said you needed a dress overly.I do need a dress.Silence.Whats the matter? Didnt I leave you my size?Yeah, you did, its just thata dress? I mean, youve asked me to get you some pretty crazy stuff forwards and Im still kind of uneasy about that one time with the nitroglycerin besides this is really out there, even for you.Oh, stop it. Just take c ar of this.I wasnt keen on the dress either, still Volusian had insisted during our earlier bedside strategy session. If things fell into place with Dorian, Id be attending an Otherworldly party on Beltane or else than waiting for an attack back here. Volusian had insisted I start making arrangements. What an age we lived in when spirit minions advised on fashion.Any special requirements?I considered. null bridesmaid or prom-ish. Think cocktail party. Simple. But elegant.Sexy?Moderately.Color?As long as it looks good. All right. Got it. Ill demand it by next week. Oh, yeah, Wil Delaney called again. You dont bewilder to let me k like a shot anymore. I sort of take it as a given by now.So you dont want to return it?No.We disconnected, and I hit the shower. Beltane eve, the queen-size night, was fast approaching. Tonight was the warm-up. The night I made my deal with the devil. After digging out my dusty blow-dryer, I dried and brushed my bull until it gleamed. I didnt usually go for letup non having th e patience just now a little foundation went a long way to hide the tiny bruises on my face from yesterdays blowout. I considered mascara superfluous with already dark eyelashes, but when combined with some smoky eye shadow, it did make my eyes look bigger. More lipstick, and I barely recognized myself. I didnt look slutty or anything, but it had certainly been a long time since Id looked so polished.I considered a skirt but couldnt go that far. Instead, I opted for tight jeans and the new half-heeled sandals. The tank top I selected was olive green, the same color as my moleskin coat, with thin straps meant to rest slightly off-key the shoulder. Each strap had a tiny ruffle along its edge, as did the low, cleavage-showing scoop neckline.Examining my reflection, I couldnt function a wistful sigh. I looked better tonight than I had when I met Kiyo. If only he could see me now.I spritzed on some Violetta di Parma, grabbed my coat and weapons, and headed for the door. Tim nearly f ell out of his chair when he power saw me.What are you doing? Are you going out? You cant do that Not after what happened yesterday.Im feeling better, I lied. Actually, it was only partially a lie. Did I feel good? No. Did I feel better than yesterday? Yes.Youre crazy.Sorry. Got business that cant wait.Dressed like that? he asked skeptically.Ignoring him, I drove out to the gateway in the desert. The variety to the Otherworld was a little rough in light of my weakened physical state, but I managed. Volusian and Nandi waited for me at the crossroads when I arrived. Finn hadnt mat like showing. It was one of the downsides of not having him bound to me. We set out along the road.Shortly into the walk, I realized wearing heels was the Worst Idea Ever. I took them off and carried them the rest of the way. If I was going to throw seeing Dorian, I would need to leave an anchor at his place to facilitate crossings.Dont cross his threshold without asking hospitality first, warned Volusia n. Theyll disarm you before you can enter. You dont want to do that without protection.I agreed, though I didnt like the idea of disarming in the first place. No one ambushed us this time, and I practically walked up to the gates without incident. The guards recognized me and locked into a defensive stance, weapons drawn. Our mistress comes in peace, said Nandi mournfully. She would let the cat out of the bag with the Oak King and ask his hospitality.Do you think were stupid? asked one of the guards, eyeing me watchfully. Not exactly, I said. But I do think you were here last time and saw that I didnt attempt any trouble. Maybe you also noticed I spent a lot of time in your kings bedroom. Trust me, hell want to see me.They conferred briefly and finally sent one of t successor number away. He returned minutes later, granting me admittance and hospitality once they had indeed disarmed me. They walked me through the same hallway as before but not up to the throne room door. Instead, we wound deeper into the keep until we stood at a set of glass doors leading out to some sort of tend or atrium. Our lord is outside, explained one of the guards, about to open the doors.Volusian blocked his way. Get a herald to announce her. Shes not a prisoner anymore. And use her titles. The man hesitated, glanced at me, and then called for a herald. Moments later, a stout man dressed head to foot in teal velvet hurried in. He looked at me and swallowed nervously before opening the doors. A handful of elegantly dressed gentry stood out in the gardens, glancing up at our entrance.Your majesty, I present Eugenie Markham, called Odile semidark Swan, young lady of Tirigan the Storm King.I winced. Yikes. Id had no idea Id had that much appended to my name now.The soft conversation dropped. Apparently I should get used to having this effect plot attending social events in the Otherworld. From inside, I had expected a small courtyard type of garden, but this looked like it stretched ou t indefinitely. The grass was still green, but many of the trees had leaves in orange, yellow, and red. None were the dying brown of late autumn. These showed the perfect, beautiful hues one saw at autumns finest. Heavy apple trees laden with fruit clustered in corners, and in the air, I could just faintly smell a bonfire and mulling spices. It was earlier in the day here than when Id left Tucson. The end of the good afternoon was giving way to twilight, the sky painted in shades of gold and pink that rivaled the leaves splendor. Torches on long poles were set up to offer light. The group parted, and Dorian strode forward. His red hair streamed behind him, and over a simple shirt and pants, he wore a robe-type garment made of wine-colored satin and gold brocade. I approached him, and we met in the middle. My spirits waited near the doorway. My, my. What a lovely surprise. I didnt think Id see you again so soon.Dorian reached for my hand, and this time I let him take it. A flicker of mischievous amusement glinted in his eyes at this small concession, and I knew I had already piqued his curiosity.I hope you dont mind me dropping in like this.He kissed my hand, just as Kiyo had yesterday. Only Dorians kiss was less of a hope you get better kiss and more of an imagine my lips in other places kind of kiss. Not at all. He drew his lips back and laced his fingers with mine. Come. Join us.I recognized a couple of the gentry standing(a) there from dinner. The other two people hanging around looked like servants, waiting anxiously with long mallet-type things in their hands. I peered at them, then at the wickets spread out in the grass.Croquet? Youre playing croquet?Dorians face broke into a grin. Yes. Do you play? Not in years. The gentry play croquet? Who knew? I supposed it was technologically simple as far as peppys went. It made more sense for them to play that than video games.Would you like to now?I shook my head. Youre already in the middle of something. Ill just watch. As you like.He took a proffered stick from one of the servants. Watching him line up a shot, I could see he intended to hit his ball and knock out an opponents near a wicket. A faint breeze ruffled his hair and the folds of his robe, and he had to take a moment to brush the fabric out of his way. When he finally hit his ball, it went wide, considerably away from his opponents ball.Ah, well. It was c lag. I nearly had it, dont you think so, Muran?Muran, a lanky guy dressed in lavender, jumped at being addressed. Er, uh, y-y-yes, your majesty. Very close. You were almost there.Dorian rolled his eyes. No, I wasnt. It was an abominable shot, you wretched man. Let Lady Markham have your turn. Give her your mallet. outright I jumped. Lady Markham? But the aforementioned Muran practically shoved the thing at me. Hesitantly, I approached his ball. I was pretty original Id been ten the last time Id played, off visiting one of my moms aunts in Virginia.Remembering Dorians hang-ups on hi s robe, I paused to slip off my coat. A servant instanter raced over to take it from me, folding it neatly over his arms. I turned back to the ball and mallet, sizing up the shot. I tossed my hair back over one shoulder and hit. The ball half-skittered, half-rolled through the grass and went through one of the wickets.Exquisite, I heard Dorian say.I glanced back at him but saw he wasnt watching the ball at all. His eyes were all over me. I tried to return the mallet to poor Muran, but Dorian wouldnt hear of it. He made me finish the game in Murans stead. As we played, I immediately picked up on something peculiar.Dorian was a terrible player too terrible to be real. He was obviously faking it, but his subjects could not bring themselves to do better than their king. So they too faked their own sort of appalling game play. Watching it was comical. I entangle up like I was in a scene from Alice in Wonderland. Having no such qualms about winning, I played normally, and even with a ching muscles and no practice, I won pretty handily.Dorian couldnt have been happier. He clasped his hands together, laughing. Oh, outstanding. This is the best game Ive played in years. These sheep wont know what to do now. He glanced at his fellow players and beckoned them toward the building. Go, go, your shepherd is tired of you all.I watched them go. You dont really treat themrespectfully.Because they deserve none. Did you see the preposterous way they acted in that game? Now imagine that happening every second, every day of your life. Thats what its like to be royalty, to live at court among courtiers. Be happy you have no original throne yet. Its all simpering and groupthink.I almost heard a touch of bitterness in his light voice. Almost.A servant handed my coat back, and Dorian addressed her and a couple of guards. Lady Markham and I are going to take a walk now through the eastern orchard. Seeing as shes dressed for business, I imagine she wants to speak alone. Follow, but keep your distance.Turning, he offered me his arm again and led me off into one of the gardens winding turns, into a ponderous apple orchard. Like the other trees Id seen, these were filled with fruit. Still more apples lay on the ground, round and red and waiting to be eaten. When we were sufficiently alone, I said, Im not dressed for business, not in these shoes. I was dressed for business the last time I was here.He gave me a sidelong look. Women who show up facial expression as lovely as you do after barely stomaching my presence last time do not come on pleasure. They come for business.Youre a cynic.A pragmatist. But, business or pleasure, it becomes you. He sighed happily. I do so wish more of our women would wear pants like those. The warriors often do but not nearly so tight.ThanksI think. We walked on at a leisurely pace while the sky turned orange and scarlet. So I imagine youve changed in other ways since our last encounter. The very fact that youve come here so congeniall y indicates as much.Yes. I change my eyes. You know, I dont appreciate you specialiseing me that Storm King bedtime story when all the time you knew I didnt know what was going on.Mean, perhaps. But also amusing were you in my place. Besides, I did you a service of sorts. I provided necessary background information, Lady Markham.Dont say Lady Markham. It sounds weird.Ive got to call you something. Our normal rules of etiquette dont exactly outline anything for your situation. You are the daughter of a king without a kingdom. You are royalty but not quite royal. So you are addressed like a noble.Well, then, only use it in public. Or stick to Odile. What about Eugenie?Fine.Silence fell between us. The orchard seemed to go on forever.Do you want to tell me why youre here yet? Or should I think up some other pleasantries to discuss?I repressed a laugh. Dorian played flamboyant and scattered, but he wasnt a fool.I need a favor.Ah, so it is business after all.I stopped walking, and he s topped with me. Looking down at me, he waited patiently, his face pleasantly neutral. I shivered as another breeze stole through, and he took my coat from me, helping me slip it on.I wrapped my arms around myself, grateful for the coats warmth. Sexy was cold.I conjured a storm yesterday.Did you now? His voice held less levity and more calculation. What happened?I told him the story, just as I had for Maiwenn and Kiyo. What were you thought when it happened? At first, I thought he was chastising me. Sort of like when you do something stupid and your mom asks, Are you insane? What were you thinking?Like how I felt? What was going through my head?He nodded.I dont know. I guess I went through a lot of moods. When it all startedI mean, I felt the same as for any other attack. Planned out what I would do, focused for a baring. But once my mom got involvedI started to lose it.And when Corwyn had you trapped?Who?The elemental. He was one of Aesons men. The spirits you banished came back tel ling tales, though admittedly, no ones heard this part, seeing as you didnt leave any witnesses.I feltscared. Weak. Defenseless. You dont strike me as soulfulness whos scared a lot.No, actually. Im scared all the time. Stupid not to be. Whats that saying? Only the dead are without fear? Or is that hope? Dunno. At that point, I sure as hell didnt have any hope either. I felt like I was out of options. And so you chose the only option left to you.I didnt choose it exactly. Not consciously.No. But sometimes our souls and the secret split of our minds know what we need.He walked over to a large, sheltering maple tree. Presumably it too had those wonderful colors, but the near-darkness made such things impossible to see. Taking off his robe, he spread it on the ground and sat down, go forth space beside him. A moment later, I sat down as well.So what have you come to ask me, Eugenie Markham? You already know. I can hear it in your voice.Hmm. So much for crafty subterfuge.I need you to te ach me how to use the magic. So it doesnt take over again. I dont want to kill soulfulness the next time I freak out.Or, he added, you just might want to kill someone with it. On purpose, that is.Maybe. I shivered. I dont know.He didnt speak right away. The darkness around us grew deeper. What you did to Corwyn was akin to using a brick to swat a fly when much finer, much simpler methods would suffice. The storms you can conjure are great and powerful things, absolutely. The gods know your father made effective use of them. But I think youll find your real power is in despotic the storms finer elements. A child can throw paint on a canvas tent a master usages with fine brushstrokes. You square off the small things, and then the storms will be second nature.I took a deep breath. So can you teach me? Will you teach me?Even in the dark, I knew he had that laconic smile on his face. If someone had told me during our last meeting that wed have this conversation, I would have flogged h im for insolence.I dont have anyone else to go to. Maiwenn offered, but she doesnt have Maiwenn? he interrupted. His tone startled me. When did you talk to her? After the attack. I explained the circumstances of our meeting. When he didnt respond, I grew defensive. Theres nothing wrong with that. If anything, its kind of nice to have someone on my side who doesnt want to see me get pregnant and take over the world. And for that very reason, you shouldnt trust her. I want to see Storm Kings heir born. Therefore, I have good reason to make sure you stay alive. She does not.I remembered thinking how Maiwenn would have had a lot less to worry about had I died in the attack. She didnt seem so sinister, I replied haltingly, suddenly struck by a thought. If Maiwenns noble philosophy involved killing me, then would Kiyo follow her in that? The sinister ones never do.Youre just trying to sway me to your side.Well, of course. Id be trying to do that regardless of her involvement.I sighed. It was all plots and posturing after all. higher up all else, Dorian was still one of the gentry. Maybe coming here was a mistake.Coming here was the smartest thing youve done so far. So tell me, what will you give me for teaching you to control your power? You cant get something for nothing, huh?Oh, please. Dont sound so superior. I helped you last time without asking anything in return, and now here you are again asking more of me. You demand a lot of the gentry you consider so greedy.Fair enough. I leaned against the tree a little. If youll help meIll letIll let people think were, you knowThere was a pause, and then his warm laughter filled the orchard. Sleeping together? Oh, you really have made my night. Thats not fair. Not fair at all.I blushed furiously in the dark. Youll one-up Aeson. Hell think Im willingly giving you what he tried to take by force. And all the while, Ill actually be getting nothing except tantalizing glimpses of you in outfits like this.Ill cover up more if it ma kes a difference. What would make a difference is if you were sleeping with me for real.Thats not fair either. Not for a few magic lessons.A few? He laughed again, his voice carrying the kind of incredulity that seemed to amuse quite a than upset him. Jesus. Did nothing bother this guy? My dear, its going to take more than a few lessons to quell that storm in you, pun intended. Especially with your temper. Its going to make focus hard.I felt indignant. Hey, Ive been focusing since I was a kid. I can clear my mind in the middle of a fight to banish spirits. I go to trance in seconds.Perhaps, he conceded grudgingly. But Im still not sure this is fair. Youll be getting more than lessons. Assuming you are my lover, people will be hesitant to assault you. Youll find your status soaring.Christ. Nothing gets past you, does it? Apparently Volusian and I have a lot more to learn about subterfuge too.Who?My servant.Ah. The sullen one with red eyes?Yes.He made a disapproving click with his ton gue. Hes both dicey and powerful. Youre brave to keep him.I know. I couldnt send him to the Underworld, so I bound him to me.If I helped you, we could belike send him on.The thought astonished me. With Volusian securely in the world of death, Id probably be a lot safer. As though reading my mind, Dorian added, Things will get nasty if he ever breaks loose on you.I know. He tells me on a regular basis in graphic detail. Stillhes been useful. I think Ill keep him around for a while. We sat quietly in the darkness again. I realized it must be getting past the castles dinner hour. Part of the reason for showing up at this time had been to get invited to dinner. With gentry pride in hospitality, Volusian had thought it would please Dorian to show off his resources, especially since being half-gentry meant I could safely eat in this world now. Finally, a legitimate perk to all this insanity. I half-smiled imagining a hall full of hungry gentry, pounding their silverware on the table. Wi th the way everyone danced around Dorians moods, however, I had no doubt theyd wait hours if need be.If youre going to pretend to be my lover, it will involve more than just say-so. Youve seen how free we are with our affections in public. If you keep ten feet away from me, no ones going to recollect it.I froze, suddenly remembering that other dinner. I hadnt entirely considered the implications. He chuckled softly, a low and dangerous sound beside me. Oh, yes, you didnt think about that, did you?He was right. Id figured Dorian and me disappearing into his bedroom for lessons would be convincing enough. But now I had to picture sit down on his lap, letting him touch me and kiss me. I had trouble with the image. He was one of the gentry, the beings Id hitherto kept a wary eye on and bring in down my whole life. Discovering Kiyos true nature had been a shock to my system, one I was slowly starting to reconcile. How could I report someone who was completely of the Otherworld? andthe more I hung around Dorian, the easier it became to think of him as just a person. Weird or not, there was something comfortable about being with him. So, yeah. I could handle this. Maybe. It was just a little making out, right? It wasnt sex. And wasnt it a small thing to ensure I didnt tear anyone else apart inadvertently?Im not going down on you or anything, I warned, using flippancy to cover my discomfort. He laughed again. As saddening as that is, it might actually be too much. Youre gracious enough that theyll expect some modesty.Small blessings. All right. Ill hold up my half if you hold up your half.Well, in distribution, I think Im actually doing three-quarters of the work here. But yes, Ill do the same. Shall we shake on it? Isnt that how you humans seal a deal?I extended my hand in the darkness, and he took it. Suddenly, he pulled me to him and kissed me. I immediately pulled back, aghast.HeyWhat? You dont expect to have our first kiss in public, do you? We want to be conv incing, remember?Youre a sleazy bastard, you know that?If you truly believe that, then maybe youll feel better finding another teacher.I thought about that. Then I leaned forward and tried to find his lips in the darkness. I didnt realize I was shaking until his hands gripped my arms.Relax, Eugenie. This wont hurt.I took a deep breath and calmed myself. Our lips found each other. His reminded me of flower petals, soft and velvety. Whereas Kiyo was all about animal passion and aggression, Dorian seemed more aboutprecision. I suddenly remembered his metaphor about the difference between slapping paint on a canvas and fine brushstrokes.Dont get me wrong, Dorian wasnt exactly sweet and chaste. There was heat in those soft lips. He seemed to want to draw out the experience, almost in a taunting way, so much so that I found myself impatient and eager when his tongue finally darted in between my lips. He pushed it further into my mouth, the rest of the kiss intensifying. He smelled like ci nnamon and cider, like all the good things in an autumn night. Finally, he pulled away.Youre still afraid of me, he noted, amused by that fact just like everything else. Your body still wont relax.Yes. I swallowed. It had felt good, the kind of good that sends heat down your body and makes your toes and other parts curl. But my fear had underscored it all, that fear of gentry and otherness that I still couldnt quite shake. It was a weird combination, physical pleasure mingling with fear. Very distinguishable from the way it was with Kiyo physical pleasure mixed with a larger, all-encompassing sense of chemistry and mutual affection, despite my unease over his half-kitsune heritage. I cant help it. This is all still strange for me. Part of me says its wrong. Its hard to change what Ive always believed overnight, you know.Do you want to go back on the deal?I shook my head. I dont go back on my deals.I could feel him smiling in the darkness. He leaned over and kissed me again.

Remember the Titans: Movie Review

The arrival of Afri rear slaves, sold in the plantations of colonial America, definitely triggered a superior-inferior relationship and mentality between the whites and the blacks. With strong cultural values on racial discrimination, the path towards the concept of racial discrimination in America was a vital moment in the course of the nations history. Social concepts and attitudes could not be altered overnight, but it can be altered.Indeed, in the quest for social progress, the struggle for equality has gone a long way, with black Americans now holding high-ranking positions in specialize fields in government and society. The issue on racism started when slave ships arrived in America from the coasts of Africa in the 17th century . Since then it has patronizeed and continues to haunt the history of the American nation. Racism was generally an issue in Americas history, which included sports as well. Race limited the sporting opportunities of legion(predicate) Americans (mainly African American).During the 1920s, few blacks compete in the National Football League before being unofficially banned in the 1930s. That eventually changed and today it is a sport dominated by mostly African Americans. In the mid 1880s, whites rejected racially integrated baseball. This changed in 1947, when Jackie Robinson became the first African American to play Major League baseball outside of a segregated black league. He became a living milestone for racial equality and changed the sport of baseball forever. Many stories like these became inspirations to time to come movies. Many movies, as in numerous things or behaviors in life, show social psychology. In movies (whether they are illustrating racism, pro-social behavior, unselfishness, or even aggression) there are original themes or life lessons to be learned. Throughout the history of sport, you can apprehend that it has collided with several cultural values gender, class, ethnicity/racism, religion, or region. In the film Remember the Titans, we see a cultural environment in 1971 refusing to accept the idea of racial equality (the main issue raised in the movie). The film displays the issue of racism and illustrates how one can overcome prejudice by uniting for a ommon cause or goal. During the course of this movie, there were many social behaviors at unravel that dealt with racism and discrimination. These obstacles didnt stop the football team from socially overcoming those difficulties. In brief, this film is well-nigh two schools in Alexandria Virginia that integrated in the early seventies to form T. C. Williams High School. The white head coach of the Titans (Coach Bill Yoast) is replaced by an African American coach from North Carolina (Coach Herman Boone). Tensions arise when players of different races are constrained together on the same football team. Many of these tensions are eased during the two-week training camp in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. When players returned to Alexandria the players found the city in turmoil collectible to the forced desegregation of the high school. As the season progresses the teams success caused the community to accept the changes. After the Titans perfect season, the team and the city were closer than ever. There were many guessworks in the film that were meaningful to the theme of racism. One important scene is at the Gettysburg battle location. Here, Coach Boone makes an impacting speech to the players on overcoming their racism.During Boones speech there is a shot of Boone and the cemetery behind him. This gets the viewer to focus on the words he is saying as well as the cemetery behind him. spell looking at the players, Coach Boone says Fifty thousand men died right here on this field fighting the same fight that were nonetheless fighting among ourselves. When they got back t o the camp, during a training session, the two captains shout the chant, left side strong side to each other. This shows a new understanding and respectfulness towards each other. They impact the rest of the team, which then come together as well.Gettysburg is the turning point in the film, where the players overcome their racism. Another important and meaningful scene is one of the locker room scenes. The scene starts off with everyone laughing with one some other while making Mama Jokes. Then, the radio is turned on and the melody Aint No Mountain High Enough by Marvin Gaye comes on. The title of the song alone gives great symbolism, showing that racism can be conquered. Slowly but surely, the tension between the players (and eventually the community) diminished. The scene where a few of the players call a team meeting in the gym is another relevant scene. The players get a sense that theyre good because they won a few games. They came together in camp, but they returned back to school and the sphere told them that they didnt belong together. In that gymnasium they come together in singing, clapping, and a huddle to conclude the scene. The story of Remember the Titans is not to the highest degree football. It is about the times of inequality, racism and narrow-mindedness. Students refused to go to class with those of a different race and adults did not want to associate with others that did not look like them. This movie is about the struggle for civil rights, but what makes this movie great is the struggle the football team faced to become one to work together to attain a common goal. Sports made this a powerful movie. Watching the players come together proved it is okay to be friends with, associate with and even care for people that dont necessarily look like you. If the T. C Williams Titans had a lesser role in the movie the concept of coming together (no matter what your background is, even when everyone else is divided) would not have been as stron g.

Having multiple or shared identities means that you are not just a member of a particaulr group or symbolize a single interest. People are made up of a number of different interests, beliefs, personal and geographical characteristics. Therefore when you describe yourself you would likely refer to a number of these identities in order to paint the full picture. For example A teacher, as well as a mother of two children, and a keen swimmer. A doctor, as well as a cyclist, and a proud cook. A schoolboy, older brother and keen gamer. Clearly explain what is meant by shared identities. Shared identities are interests or beliefs that we hold in common with a group of other people. This may be with regard to areas of life such as religion, sport, profession, or geographical area. Explain how an individual can identify themselves as belonging to a number of different groups. ) Give two examples for the above. An individual will almost certainly have interests, beliefs or membership that ties in with a number of different groups. As a result, they may choose to refer to any number of these when describing themselves as a person. For example I am a practising Christian and am also a proud Northerner. I am a pensioner, but still enjoy cycling with the Middlesex Marauders Any individual will almost certainly be a member of a number of different groups, either due to their specific ideals or beliefs, their physical and emotional characteristics, or their personal interests and characteristics.A number of these have been expanded upon in antecedent answers. A person may choose to describe themselves by reference to one or all of these membership groups. This may be with reference to personal interest groups for instance political parties, social groups or sporti ng clubs. It may be with reference to personal characteristics, for instance their size, build, hair colour, emotional characteristics or sexual orientation. A person may refer to themselves in terms of their religion and belief. They may also choose to refer to themselves as being part of a particular cultural group, or as having particular political beliefs. An individual may also refer to themselves as coming from a particular geographic location, or as having originated from a particular demographic within society for instance a Northerner or a Geordie. Two examples of using multiple groups as a way of describing yourself are as follows I am a practising Christian, a proud Northerner and am a founding member of the Lakeside lumberjacks. here we see reference to a particular religious characteristic, in addition to a geographical characteristic and a personal interest characteristic. I am a pensioner, but still enjoy cycling with the Middlesex Marauders, and am a keen campaigner for the local Conservative party. Here we see examples of cultural (age and politics) characteristics, as well as personal interest characteristics. Write a description of yourself in terms of your own multiple identities. I am married and also a father of two children. I work locally as a police officer, a job that I entered after attending the University of Birmingham. I enjoy playing cricket as well as watching it, and am also a keen cyclist. I originate from Oxfordshire and have forever lived in the South of England.

The phylogeny described in this paper is based on molecular data (similarities in DNA sequences)10. Based on that phylogeny, write in the sister taxon (taxon A) to Proboscidea. Give the fo rmal name.Taxon A or Sirenia Proboscidea11. Write in the taxon (taxon B) that is sister to the clade composed of (Proboscidea + Taxon A). Give formal nameTaxon B orTaxon A Proboscidea Hyracoidea12. consummate an internet oceanrch for these two taxa and find out their common names. What are their common names? Describe each. The common name for Sirenia is ocean Cow. Sea cows are fully aquatic, herbivorous mammals that appear fat. They have forelimbs used for steering and a tail used for paddling. The common name for Hyracoidea are hyraxes. Hyraxes are well-furred animals with short tails and have poor internal temperature regulation. What was your thought/reaction upon discovering what these creatures are? My thought reaction was how can animals that look nothing same be similar to an elephant if they visually look different.Believe it or not, there are morphological (phenotypic) similarities as well as dietary and behavioral similarities between all of these taxa. BEFORE molecular d ata was available, scientists already suspected that these groups were closely related. The DNA evidence only helped to confirm the relationships. Well do more on that in a moment.13. Search the web to find at least two non-molecular synapomorphies between each of your modern taxa and the elephants (be specific)Animal 1 nameRock HyraxesRock Hyraxes are furry and have the soles of the feet with large, soft pads that are kept moist. Manatees have paddle like flippers and a snout.Animal 2 nameManatees14. Which of the features you listed are more likely to survive in the fossil record? Explain why. Most likely to survive in the fossil record is the snout because it consists of the bone up of the jaw which are very good for becoming fossils.15. Which are less likely? Explain why.Less likely are the fur, soft pads at the feet, and the paddle-like flippers because all are more prone to decay rapidly because of being soft structures. The flippers are also more prone to not preserving quickl y therefore eaten or broken down by aerobic microbes. Now for moleculesTo see the actual molecular data used to create the phylogeny you saw, select the .pdf named mammoth and sea cow.16. Go to page 409. Dots mean the base pair (A, C, T or G) is the same as is listed in the taxon thats at the take place (this saves ink). Now compare the sequences for the African elephant and the Asian elephant in just the top row of page 409.How many molecular differences do you see in the sequence shown? There are 8 molecular difference in the sequence. How many molecular differences do you count between the African elephant and the hyrax? There are 11 molecular differences between the African elephant and the hyrax.17. Based on anatomy alone (without the molecular evidence), would you have guessed that the animals in photos above represented the closest living relatives of elephants? Why or why not?Honestly, based on the anatomy alone, I would not have guessed that the animals represent close relativ es of the elephants because of the physical anatomical reference characteristic they have. Most animals can have similar anatomy with slight differences that contribute to their survival in an environment. Initially, I thought that the animals had similar characteristics only because of raw(a) selection and adaptation of their environment not becauseof their common ancestor. This shows how molecular evidence can really help in seeing what animals belong in what lineages.

Listening awareness between a Man and Woman Essay

Its a larn experience to discuss communication variances surrounded by workforce and muliebrity, but ships company must also forget, even for a brief mo work forcet that, custody ar from Mars, Woman are from Venus. Everyone shouldnt ponder how a woman or men would act, without knowing the self-esteem elements of listening stinker do. Dont we ponder why woman are so easily give up in asking for directions, while men tend to not give up easily and try find in that respect way out of an unknown town.Currently, society is right the beginning to understand the true differences between men and women. Besides the obvious physiological differentiations, in that location are also differences in the way men and women think, speak, behave and sharing listening factor variances that pull up stakes help guide the way women and men can help communicate without it having any effect on ones self-esteem.Non-verbal communication, because actions may sometimes speak louder than words Wom en are more than spontaneously emotion everyy expressive yet also have less ability in controlling their emotions, while men are more direct minded and straight to the point (Jeff Thompson, Psychology at present Article). Body phrase is graceful for as a significance tool to identify any mixed signals, warning signs or accept behaviors between a man a woman, and this can lead to a low or high self-stem as well. Such as, plurality are enjoying more quiet flecks, and just using welcoming body language or positive non-verbal communication, and simply the other person would listen by responding binding with a sincere smile, hug, etc.Another aspect of non-verbal communication, it can send of the varied vibes of potent dominance, men tend to have a more closed approach, while woman will expose more affiliate body movement and response to a non-verbal response. Listening with reactions, and no verbal can leave men and woman having a dissimilar outlook, such as when woman touch there selfs too much, it may be identified as flirting, while the woman is seeing the man as squeamish or impatient. To say you are listening would be reinforced by eye contact and position of the body, facial expressions is a huge key factor for listening gestural communication. Therefore, nonverbal communication is important to resolving conflict, enjoying each others company, meaningful conversation and increase trust between a man and woman.Another listening skills that will help improve men and woman self-esteem is participating listening. energetic listening will help improve empathy, build trust, and instill a person listen as much as he or she would speak during conversations. Unfortunately, more or less raft focus more on the speaking than they do on the listening (Susan Cross, Psychology Today Article). If a women or man were to sit back an listen to what is hap, they would submit more and be equal to think of a greater and responsive answer in a conversation th at is happening. The problem that nigh people have is becoming a poor listener, because they are not actively listening or fully engulfing what is happening around they, and will is not only be perceived as bad-mannered but that they miss out on important knowledge of any given conversation, speech, for both sexes. busy listening is becoming extinct because of modern day technology of social media is becoming more and more of a distraction. Using active listening, it will help a person understand any speaker, because the more that is being heard, the more the person and respond and reflect how the other person will be feeling. Active listening involves sensing, processing, and responding in empathic ways. Sensing, the man or woman would be able to take all that he or she is hearing and dissect a great response.Processing, is putting the pieces of the puzzle together, and responding after the active listening is to draw a non-verbal response, giving a clue to the speaker that acti ve listening is happening. In other words, men and woman alike should defiantly wait before they speak, a moment too soon may seem rude, not responding will leave a bitter reaction to the other person, so listen wisely with open ears and mind.A countless tool for men and women to comprehend, and learning what may affect the impression of any given outcome, is reflective listening. For example, with active listening being use through text messages, emails, social media than a modern day phone call, reflective listening is becoming more critical to ones communication. Various of incidents of miscommunication happens, because one person may not lightly understand a persons reaction, were as reflective listening must be employ to either help enlighten what he or she is saying, or further create another mind to have a more clarifying and direct response.Empathy is surprisingly difficult to achieve. We all have a strong tendency to advise, tell, agree, or disagree from our own point of view. ( Dalmar Fisher, Communications in Organization Article). Roughly, people necessitate acceptance, and men tend not to reflect or show a response when pass judgment and agreement, and men also wont show any acceptance when its disagreement. Woman will easily overuse emotions, rather it be acceptance of positive or negative news. Both sides should fly the coop towards personal and reflective stories, than what is impersonal, conflicting or may push the opposing person away.If a woman or man cant fully understand what the speaker is saying, just reiterate and clarify what just happened, verses driving the speaker with questions and turning the speaker into the listener. Reflecting listening, both sides will be able to show acceptance and empathy, not with indifference, cold objectivity, or fake actions that can lower the speakers or person dignity. Possibly the most significant, the reflective listener will try and respond to feelings, and not just to content, but with fee lings. The speaker, rather is be a man or woman is often not flavor for the solution of the surface problem, but rather for a way to deal with the emotional ramifications, and when it comes to knowing how to communicate with a man or womans self-esteem, were all human beings. The outcome of non-verbal communication, active listening and reflective listening with men and woman will cause relationships to develop and learn to accept empathy, increase trust with one another. Having both sides listening, it is encouraging for both sides to discover and solve problems easier people automatically believe they are naturally born listeners. Both men and woman, ten to listen for what we want to listen, than really listen to what the speaker is saying. Great relationships, rather is be friendship, spouses, workplace are only happening with knowing what good listening skills can be brought to all ends of the table.Communications is a key factor when it comes to listening between a man a woman, if it doesnt happen or its create up between both sides, it would eventually fall apart and unable to rebuild. For both sides to appreciate what is current, and with woman that tend to hold on to past, just learn from it, rather than holding on to a distant memory. Furthermore, listening does builds lifelong foundation between people, the foundation just needs to be up kept, and for both sides to speak up, but not forgetting to listen.
